The Caves

Ocean mist sprayed her face, carefree, filled with the joy she ached for.

Her jet sped across the water, jagged cliffs raced behind, her life morphing into something off a thriller she did not quite want to be in.

There was nothing left.

Her hunger led her to this. Her family hiding behind enemy lines. Her past haunting her like a nightmare. Her life mission was now one searing goal, to save her family.  She wouldn't care if she died after that.

She had rehearsed her dying words a million times in her head.

"Tell Grant I love him."

Her brother.

She reconnected with him two days prior.

He snuck into the dark, finding the underground phone, barely missing the security floodlight. He had bought them just a few seconds of time. Desperate whispers of the plan at hand, she would sneak into the labyrinth through the caves. He would calculate their next move. The clock was ticking. Just a second left. And then, silence. The agony of trying to convey a lifetime of love in no seconds left.
They could not rule out that this could be the last time they talked.

Fierce determination marked her face. She could not let that be an option. Her brother was with their parents. Stuck within a prison wall, taken captive for their faith. She was not about to let them go.

She killed the motor.
Darkness was upon her. There was not a light in sight, this island was a long held family secret.
Clad in a water suit, she approached the rocks below the overhanging cliffs. The legendary caves were below the cliffs. She had scouted the area as a little girl, but had not been back since. Memories flooded her senses. Lazy summers with her parents, as they came to these islands for family vacations. Carefree laughter. Chasing her dad into the waves, sand in her feet. Throwing her brother into the water, squealing with delight. Underwater diving adventures with her brother. Thats when they discovered the caves.
Caves where they discovered the labyrinth. Caves that were now about to lead her back to her family.

Once

She stood upon the ground her dreams took shape; the cliffs overlooking the black sea.
The breeze entwined its fingers into her hair, the sound of crashing waves were music to her ears.
She took a deep breath.

Life was beyond what she imagined it to be.
Surpassing her wildest dreams, she was called into an adventure she never saw coming.
Her mission was to set other people free so they could enjoy their God-given destiny.
Armed with a story, to share, to own, to declare His goodness.

Her beeper went off.
Time to get back to the base.
A doctor at skill, a dreamer at heart, an adventurer in life.

Life is lived but once.
